Te Whare Mahana provides a range of community-based mental health services within Golden Bay, as well as New Zealand’s only residential DBT intensive mental health programme.
Te Whare Mahana Trust is an independent, Non-Government Organisation (NGO) based in Takaka, Golden Bay, governed by a Board of community representatives. Golden Bay is renowned for its strong and supportive community, spirit, and stunning location on the border of two National Parks, making it the ideal setting for the Trust’s mental health services.
Local Golden Bay programmes include Community Mental Health Services and an Employment and Vocational service. Te Whare Mahana has strong connections with other local service providers and agencies and works closely with Golden Bay Community Hospital, Mohua Social Services and local GPs.
All Te Whare Mahana’s trained professionals are committed to providing the best quality services and a genuine, warm and welcoming atmosphere for clients, their families and whanau.

Two Service Areas
National DBT Service
Situated in Golden Bay, Nelson Tasman, Te Whare Mahana offers New Zealand’s only national residential Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programme. This internationally renowned programme is for people experiencing frequent high levels of distress and have had no success from hospital and community treatments.
Golden Bay Community Services
Te Whare Mahana provides local services for the Golden Bay community fulfilling our mission “to provide quality mental health services in Golden Bay and assist people working toward wellness and independence.”
