Te Whare Mahana Trust (TWM) is a warm mental health NGO seeking a skilled and compassionate DBT Psychologist, Therapist or Mental Health Professional with experience in DBT-PTSD or CBT and EMDR – prolonged exposure. About the role & programme
You will work as part of our DBT-PTSD Residential clinical team delivering individual and group DBT-PTSD interventions in a residential setting, contributing to treatment planning, risk assessment, skills classes, coaching and smooth transitions to community care. The role includes clinical liaison with GPs, Golden Bay Community Hospital, DHB referrers and other mental health professionals, participation in supervision and training, and maintaining high standards of documentation and reporting. This role is guided by our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and includes culturally safe practice and liaison with iwi where appropriate.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individual DBT therapy in line with DBT-PTSD protocols and deliver/ co-facilitate DBT skills groups and coaching.
- Carry out clinical risk assessments, develop and monitor individualised treatment and discharge plans.
- Offer clinical backup and emergency response consultation to residential staff as required.
- Communicate and coordinate care with external clinicians, referrers and community agencies to support continuity of care.
- Involve family / whānau (where client permission is given) in care and planning to support recovery.
- Maintain accurate, timely records, reports and quality standards; participate in supervision, training and performance review.
Your skills, attributes & experience
- Registered Mental Health Professional with a current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (e.g. Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Mental Health Nurse or equivalent).
- Significant clinical experience in DBT-PTSD or CBT, EMDR-prolonged exposure and trauma-focused treatment, preferably in both community and residential settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to build professional networks in the community.
- Committed to receiving supervision and continuing professional development.
- Well organised with good IT literacy and professional administrative practice.
- Flexible, solution-focused, culturally aware and motivated by strengths-based recovery work.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the implementation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and a commitment to bicultural practice.
